LIT Protective Family Capacity Framework™

Language. Identity. Transformative Action.

A language-mediated, culturally affirming, generative and protective framework. The LIT Protective Family Capacity Framework™ is an innovative, research-informed model designed to strengthen families’ capacity to support children with dyslexia and other learning differences. Grounded in resilience science, co-regulation and executive function research, and culturally sustaining pedagogies, this framework positions families as the first line of protection and identity affirmation for children navigating educational systems.

At its core, the framework highlights the power of language as a vehicle for protection, learning, and advocacy. Through structured, identity-affirming, and co-regulatory communication, families can build their children’s emotional regulation, executive functioning, literacy skills, and advocacy competencies, creating both immediate and long-term protective effects.

How It Works

The framework is organized into four interconnected levels:

  1. Language as Mechanism - Family discourse and narrative interaction transmit knowledge, culture, and resilience.

  2. Co-Regulatory Processes - Caregiver-child interactions scaffold emotional and cognitive regulation in real time.

  3. Developmental Outcomes -  Executive functioning, critical literacy skills, and metacognitive abilities are strengthened through guided practice.

  4. Generative Impact - Skills, knowledge, and protective practices are transmitted intergenerationally, building lasting family and community resilience.

This framework integrates three evidence-based and culturally responsive bodies of knowledge:

Resilience & Protective Factor Science – Academic success is influenced by emotional, relational, and environmental supports in addition to instruction.

Parent Training & Behavior Change Science – Caregivers are learners who benefit from modeling, coaching, and structured skill development.

Culturally Sustaining & Liberation-Centered Pedagogy – Community knowledge, resistance traditions, and linguistic diversity are leveraged as protective literacy assets.

About Me

Resha Conroy is a leading voice in dyslexia advocacy, sought after speaker, thought leader in educational justice, and a speech-language pathologist with expertise in dyslexia, language, and executive functioning skills.  â€‹

Resha believes that communication is the foundation of connection, learning, and identity. Every child is a dynamic, capable learner whose brain is wired for growth. Her therapy nurtures that potential through a holistic, strength-based, and engaging approach rooted in evidence-based practice and brain science.

Drawing on the research about the developing brain, she supports the neural pathways that make communication possible — from sound awareness and vocabulary development to reading, writing, and social interaction. Each session is designed to be joyful, purposeful, and personalized, blending structured methods with creativity, movement, and play to strengthen both skill and confidence.

Her approach honors every child’s language background, culture, and individuality, recognizing that communication thrives when it is meaningful and affirming. Families are active partners in our process, equipped with practical tools and strategies that extend beyond therapy to home and school.

Her goal is simple but powerful: to help each child find their voice, connect with others, and build lasting confidence in their ability to communicate and learn.
